Hadith 10 from An-Nawawi

BismiLlah Al Rahman Al Rahim,

Abu Hurairah (r) also reported that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:

‘Verily Allah is pure. He does not accept but that which is pure. Allah commands the believers with what He commanded the Messengers. Allah Almighty has said:

“O you Messengers! Eat of the good things and act righteously” [23:51-53]

And Allah Almighty also said:

“O you who believe! Eat of the good things that We have provided you with” [2:167-172]

Then he (the Prophet) mentioned (the case of) a man who, having journeyed far, is disheveled and dusty and who stretches out his hands to the sky (saying): “O Lord! O Lord!” (while) his food was unlawful, his drink was unlawful, his clothing was unlawful, and he is nourished with unlawful things , so how can he be answered?’

Purity in everything, our actions (have to be) sincere for the sake of Allah (swt)

“Eat of the good things”: wholesome, organic, healthy food

Conditions for answered prayers (dua’ mustajab) (according to the man):

  • “journeyed”, trip: difficulty, in constant remembrance of Allah (swt)
  • “disheveled and dusty”: total disconnection with the physic
  • raising of the hands: he realizes that Allah will fulfill his request

BUT his food, drink, clothing are unlawful (haram)

We must try to ensure that our affairs are lawful (halal)

Contentment is in the heart.

We should always be optimistic that Allah will answer our dua’ inch’Allah
